Born on March 17, 1990 in Hisar, India to parents Harvir Singh Nehwal and Usha Nehwal, she is the first Indian to win a medal in Badminton at the Olympics. She was able to attain the remarkable success when she joined and won the Bronze medal during the London Olympics 2012 in August 2012. These days, she is regarded as one of the successful badminton players in the world.

According to Saina’s coach Pullela Gopichand, they decided to change Saina’s fitness regime in one of her preparations for her tournament. Pullela told Times of India, “We have taken many steps in changing Saina’s regime, but one decision we recently took was to get her to lose weight and also to get leaner. This way, she will be lighter on her feet and move around the court faster and with more ease. We also wanted to make her slightly muscular, and increased her protein intake.”

When it comes to diet, Saina said, “I have quit all food with high carbs, plus also all junk and oily food. The Indian Open is the perfect place to see if the new diet will help me out. It is the last event for qualifying for the Olympics, and for that, we have changed my diet and my usual training plan. Sometimes you have to take different steps if you want to beat the Chinese!”
