Russell Wendell Simmons was born on October 4, 1957 in Queens, New York. He is an American business magnate and influential man. He graduated high school from August Martin High School. After graduating, he proceeded college at City College of New York in Harlem. It was in the year 1985 when he delved into movie producing. That year, he particularly co-produced the Warner Bros film Krush Groove starring Blair Underwood, Sheila E., and other cast. Other than that, he was able to develop his own business called Rush Communications, Inc. This company composes of different lines of businesses which include a movie production house, magazine publication, advertising, and TV shows including the Def Comedy Jam which is shown in HBO. In 1999, he officially stated that he is and advocate of Ahimsa and veganism and he supports animal rights.
Russell regularly works out and one of his favorite forms of workout is Yoga. According to him, it helps him soothe his mind and ease his daily stress. He said, “When you meditate, you are more in tune with your body. That’s one of the first things that you notice. You do all kinds of twisting poses to clean your liver and cleanse your intestines, so when you think about what adds to your practice, what will nourish you, you know that you don’t want to put animal products in you.”
And as a vegan, he knows exactly that eating plant-based foods are the best way to take care of his body. “Eating a vegetarian diet allows you to be more compassionate, but being more compassionate promotes a vegetarian diet. They go hand in hand,” the business tycoon said.
