Japanese film actress Rinko Kikuchi was born on January 6, 1981 in Hadano, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. The wife of Shōta Sometani, she first had an appearance on screen as an actress when she appeared on School of ghost stories f in the year 1997. In 2006, she became remarkable when she was cast on Babel and earned numerous recognitions including Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actress, Austin Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actress, National Board of Review Award for Breakthrough Performance — Female, and a number of nominations. She soon had series of big screen appearances including the films Pacific Rim in 2013, Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter in 2014, and many others.
In one of Rinko’s interviews, she shared how she physically prepared for her shooting in Pacific Rim. When it comes to working out, she said, “Before shooting, I was training like boot camp: weight lifting, running on the beach, martial arts, eating healthy foods. I’ve never done this before. I hate it.”
She also shared what her diet was like. “Chocolate, Pasta, some Japanese food, French fries,” she enumerated. “You know, I love that. But I couldn’t eat any of those at all… Also my trainer was really hard on me. I love him, but he was really hard on me.”
