Paula Ann Hiers Deen, simply known as Paula Deen, is an American celebrity chef and cooking show TV host born on January 19, 1947 in Albany, Georgia. Paula had a humble past prior to fame. After having her divorce with her ex-husband Jimmy Deen, she was left with only $200. And since it’s not enough to raise her children, she worked as a bank teller and a real estate seller then later on started her own home-based catering service called The Bad Lady, making meals and sandwiches which her sons delivered. The said catering service became popular which made her decide to expand it beyond the confines of her kitchen. In the year 1996, she opened her own restaurant called The Lady and Sons which later on became more popular when it was awarded by the USA Today with a title called “International Meal of the Year”. Later on she published her book The Lady and Sons Savannah Country Cookbook which gave her more prominence. Soon after, she appeared on television for the first time and was highlighted in the QVC shopping channel.
She was once noted as an overweight celebrity. But when she lost over 30 pounds years ago, everyone became curious as of how she did it. When she was asked about any particular workout that she indulged, she said she resorted to treadmills.
She also practiced portion control diet. “It’s about moderation,” Paula shared during her interview with the Woman’s Day. “I just needed to learn to eat a normal portion size and not overindulge.”
