The son of Jennifer Paes and Vece Paes, he became most remarkable for winning eight doubles and nine mixed doubles Grand Slam titles. He also became famous for being the oldest man to have won a Grand Slam title. In the year 1996, he brought home a bronze medal for India in singles from Atlanta Olympic Games. He continues to be a notable sports celebrity these days.

Leander is a health-enthusiast. In fact, he said in one of his interviews that he is physically active and health-conscious that’s why he’s fit and strong. He also does not give in to vices, according to him. “For me, sport and fitness are a way of life,” he said. “I am fanatical about my fitness and a healthy living. I don’t smoke, do drugs or alcohol. I don’t need it.”

And according to his coach T Chandrasekaran, Leander loves to run on beaches. “Leander will never forget the Chennai beaches,” Chandrasekran said. “To improve his endurance, I used to make him run on these beaches for miles. This made his legs stronger and faster, which is crucial for any tennis player.”
