Lauren Elizabeth Jackson is an Australian professional basketball player. She was born on May 11, 1981 in Albury, New South Wales, Australia to parents Gary Jackson and Maree Bennie who were also basketball players during their earlier days. At four, she started playing basketball at the Albury Sports Centre as her mother taught her how to play. She started to get recognized in the chosen sport when she played at the 1996 Summer Olympics together with basketball players Shelley Gorman, Robyn Maher, and Michelle Timms. She was then eventually drafted in the WNBA in 2001. In 2007, she joined the Women’s Korean Basketball League and gained a recognition as the league’s Most Valuable Player. She also participated in the European basketball and even played with WBC Spartak Moscow Region. Recently, she signed with the Heilongjiang Shenda of the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association.
When asked about her typical workout, she said, “When I’m not in Canberra training at the Australian Institute Of Sport, I lift weights in my home gym, or train on my elliptical trainer. I also like to do different things, and try to fit in a game of golf every couple of weeks. It’s a lot harder than you’d think, walking up and down hills. But there is something really nice about being in the fresh air.”
She’s also a healthy eater. According to her, “I try and eat mostly healthy, fresh food, such as meat, salad and vegetables, but I do get my fair share of carbohydrates too. When I’m in training, I pasta up but, like everybody, I can’t eat as much if I’m not training, which is hard! After a work-out, I drink litres and litres of water and I ice my muscles.”
