Retired American professional boxer Laila Amaria Ali was born on December 30, 1977. She is known as the eighth and youngest daughter of the legendary retired heavyweight boxer Muhammad Ali and third wife Veronica Porsche Ali. When she was 18, she started boxing after she watched a women’s boxing and got an inspiration from the American boxing professional Christy Martin. Despite her father’s objection to her plans of engaging in boxing, she continued to pursue it, reasoning that she has his father’s genetics and she will be okay. Her first boxing match happened on October 8, 1999, fighting her opponent April Fowler from Michigan City, Indiana and successfully knocked her out. In 2003, she fought with her boxing inspiration Christy Martin and also knocked her out. She also became the IWBF Light Heavyweight apart from possessing a world champion.
Now that Laila is no longer active in boxing, she keeps her shape by doing other sorts of exercises. “Instead of boxing, I’m doing things that other people do, like running, Spinning and Pilates,” she shared during her interview with Fitness Magazine. “I’m trying new things that I’m not necessarily going to injure myself trying to do.”
Moreover, this sensational boxer loves to gobble healthy snacks. “If I have a sweet tooth, it’s going to be Greek yogurt,” she explained. “I’ll sprinkle on a little bit of Xylitol, a sugar replacement, to sweeten it. Because if you buy yogurt sweetened, there’s a lot of sugar in it. So I get the plain Greek yogurt and add a little bit of fruit; maybe some granola and nuts. If I want vegetables, I’ll probably do kale—bake it and make kale chips.”
