Born May 30, 1971 in Queens, New York City, Idina Menzel is the daughter of Helene and Stuart Mentzel. Growing up, she already had a passion in singing on musical theater that’s why at an early age, she decided to pursue it in the future. She regarded Barbra Streisand as her inspiration. At 15, she auditioned for Broadway and enrolled in school theater. She then started singing at weddings and bars in Long Island after her parents divorced. Later on, she studied drama at the New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and eventually performed at rock and pop clubs right after graduating. In 1995, her life changed when director Jonathan Larson included her in the casts for the musical Rent which earned her a nomination for Tony Award Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical. She then decided to continue pursuing singing and consider acting at the same time. She appeared on a number of theater plays, films, and TV shows including The Vagina Monologues, Wicked, See What I Wanna See, Kissing Jessica Stein, and Glee. Recently, she voiced the character Elsa in the 3D computer animated musical fantasy film Frozen.

Idina stays healthy by resorting to Yoga sessions and boxing. She said in one of her interviews, “I do Bikram yoga. I also like to box and I have a trainer. I take the art of boxing seriously, but make sure I don’t get punched in the face. I do get to punch big, tough guys, and they practice their defense. It’s a great workout for the core. I’m not so great with Pilates, because I find it too boring and slow, especially when I’m feeling really athletic.”

When it comes to her eating habits, she says she loves to eat blueberries as her snacks. She added that she’s also trying to be Gluten-free. Additionally, she’s keeping a healthy but delicious meal everyday. “I love sushi. I eat lots of chicken, or a piece of grilled fish like tilapia, with spinach and Brussels sprouts,” she expressed.
