Gretchen Lynn Polhemus-Jensen, famously known as Gretchen Polhemus, is a American actress and former Miss USA and second runner-up to Miss Universe 1989. She was born on March 12, 1965 in Texas, United States. Prior to joining beauty pageants, she used to be working as a cattle broker and real estate agent in Texas. It was in the year 1987 when she joined the Miss Texas USA beauty pageant and won. That time, she also earned the Photogenic award. In 1989, she joined the Miss USA and claimed the crown which led her to the Miss Universe 1989 pageant.
When Gretchen was interviewed by Shape, she shared how she basically trained and practiced a strict diet when she joined the competition. She said, “During the competition it was always so hard to find something healthy to eat, and I saw some girls gain weight. I was bound and determined not to, so I asked a volunteer to buy me tuna and asparagus. When we went to the fancy events I would bring the cans instead of eating the big buffet.”
She continued, “After I won Miss USA, I was on the road leading up to the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico, so I packed an entire suitcase full of just bottled water, tuna, and asparagus so I could avoid all the Mexican buffets and pastries.”
