American singer Grace Slick was born on October 30, 1939 in Highland Park, Illinois to parents Ivan W. Wing and Virginia. One with Norwegian and Swedish descent, she is best known for being one of the lead singers for certain bands such as “The Great Society”, “Jefferson Airplane”, “Jefferson Starship”, and “Starship”. It was in the year 1964 when she started to get involved with “The Great Society” together with her husband Jerry Slick. They took their inspiration from the band “The Beatles”. Soon after, she got involved with “Jefferson Airplane” and since then, her life as a rock star became successful and prominent.
At 75, Grace is still very strong and fit. Her secret? Vegetarianism. According to her, “I’m in good health and people want to know what I do to be this way. Vegetarian is a slippery word. I don’t eat cheese, I don’t eat duck— the point is I’m vegan.”
She added that she became a vegetarian for a reason. She said, “I wasn’t always a vegetarian, I didn’t care about animals one way or the other, they were part of the scenery. Until one day on tour, I saw a baby panda. I thought that it was the most fabulous animal in the world and made a different kind of connection. I began to understand how animals were part of the greater scheme and I stopped eating them.”
