Amber Patrice Riley is an American actress, singer, songwriter, dancer, and philantropist. She was born on February 15, 1986 in Los Angeles, California to parents Tiny and Elwin Riley. She is the actress behind the character Mercedes Jones in the popular musical comedy TV series Glee. Prior to fame, she used to be one amongst the many aspiring singers who auditioned for the second season of the American Idol. She was 17 years old by that time, but unfortunately, she wasn’t able to make it to the Hollywood since the judges turned her down. In 2009, she auditioned for the role Mercedes Jones in Glee and sang her favorite song, Aretha Franklin’s “Respect”. When she landed the role, it was the most notable moment of her life, as her dream of becoming a singer and performer finally came true. Recently, she joined and won the season 17 of the Dancing With the Stars, showing her other talent which made her become a well-rounded celebrity.
Apparently, Amber lost a great deal of weight right before she appeared in the Dancing With the Stars. Her secret was pretty simple: regularly exercising and sticking with her diet and workout regimen. Here’s what she said regarding her weight loss. “I’ve always been comfortable with my size,” Amber said. “I just decided it was time to get healthy.”
Of course, dancing greatly helped her reduce weight. “I think it’s amazing that I’m doing something positive,” she said. “And I did something just because I wanted to learn how to dance just because I wanted to work out, you know what I mean? I wanted to be healthy. It was kind of a selfish reason.”
