Alina Maratovna Kabaeva is a Russian Honored Master of Sports, retired rhythmic gymnast, and politician. She was born on May 12, 1983 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. It was in the year 1996 when she experienced her international debut.
In 1998, she earned success when she won the European Championships in Portugal. She also gained prominence when she joined the 2000 Sydney Olympics as well as in the 2001 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships where she won the gold for the ball, clubs and rope, and gold in the Individual All-Around and hoop.
Irina used to be ‘too fat’ for gymnastics, but thanks to her coach Irina Viner who encouraged and even pressured her to lose some fats, she’s now fitter than ever. According to Alina, Irina used to tell her “If you don’t get thin I will squeeze the fat out of you with my own hands” in a joking yet encouraging kind of way, that’s why even though she was hungry she tried real hard to control her cravings and eat what is essential for her fitness. Well, what a motivation!
