Shirley MacLaine, originally Shirley MacLean Beaty, was born on April 24, 1934 in Richmond, Virginia to parents Ira Owens Beaty and Kathlyn Corinne. She is an American film, television and theater actress, singer, dancer, activist, and author. She first became remarkable in the year 1955 when she was awarded with a Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year – Actress for her impressive performance on the film The Trouble with Harry. Soon after, she was seen on various films and TV series. In 2008, she garnered three nominations including Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie, Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film, and Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress – Miniseries or a Movie.

According to Shirley, she usually keeps herself healthy by hiking together with her dog. She said in an interview, “I hate exercise as much as anyone but when I’m hiking with my dog Terry it’s not so bad. I’ll do an hour in the morning, then feel like I’ve earned a nice lunch.”

She confessed in another interview that she also stays happy with her body no matter the changes. “I decided to relax and enjoy the reality that my dancer’s figure is gone,” she said. “The important thing now is to be happy and healthy.”
