Monique Angela Hicks, better known as Mo’Nique, is an American actress and comedian. Born on December 11, 1967 in Baltimore, Maryland, she is the youngest daughter of Alice Imes and Steven Imes, Jr. Prior to fame, she used to work as a customer service representative in a phone company. It was in the year 1991 when she started to appear on screen, playing the role Nicole Parker on the TV series The Parkers until 2004. She also became more dominant when she served as a host for her own TV show The Mo’Nique Show from 2009 to 2011. It was also in 2009 when she gathered multiple awards for playing the role Mary Lee Johnston on the drama film Precious. Some of these awards include International Online Film Critics’ Poll Award for Best Supporting Actress, Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture, and many, many more.
Apart from being an award-winning actress, Mo’Nique also became remarkable for her weight loss. According to the actress, she basically did her best to shed off some fats. She attended Yoga classes, lifted weights, jumped ropes, hiked, did boxing, as well as hula-hooping and swimming. Whoa! What a determination!
And not only that. She also did some diet that is not really strict. So, what motivated her to lose weight? “People always say, ‘Mo’Nique, what motivates you?’ I had to do it for my husband and my children. And I had to get out of my own way,” she explained. Well, that seals the deal!
