American rapper, singer-songwriter, and record producer Missy Elliot was born on July 1, 1971 in Portsmouth, Virginia to parents Ronnie, a U.S. Marine and Patricia, who worked as a power-company coordinator. Missy, at the age of four, had always known that she wanted to perform, however because she was always the class clown, nobody seemed to take it seriously.
