Mercedes Yvette Scelba-Shorte, also known as Mercedes Yvette, is an American fashion model and actress. She was born on August 24, 1981 in New Jersey, United States. A product of California State University, Northridge, she was known for her appearance on America’s Next Top Model. She is also known for being the spokesperson for the Lupus Foundation of America.
Years ago, Mercedes was diagnosed with Lupus and this condition changed her life. She said in an interview, “My life changed immensely when I decided I didn’t want to be sick anymore. I woke up and made it my choice to “cure” myself. I mentally switched off ‘woe is me’ to ‘I am healthy, happy and strong’.”
She said that she did everything to conquer the condition and become a healed person. “I did research to find how some people cured themselves of cancer and other autoimmune diseases,” she said. “I read books like Kris’s Carr, Crazy Sexy Cancer and books by Dr. Weil. They taught me about clean and healthy eating and what are in the products we use on a daily basis.” Mercedes teaches that a condition should never let a person be affected. Instead, a person should be brave enough to find medications and practice a healthy lifestyle.
