Melinda Gainsford - celebhealthy_comMelinda Gainsford-Taylor is a retired Australian athlete. She was born on October 1, 1971 in Narromine, Australia. She is famous for specializing in sprint events. In 1995, she won the World Indoor championship over 200 m. Throughout her career she also won international medals at the World Championships and Commonwealth Games. It was in the year 1992 when she won the first of five 100 m/200 m sprint doubles during the Australian National Championships.

Melinda is a certified exercise freak. She said in an interview, “Exercise is like brushing my teeth; it’s part of my day. I find my energy levels are a lot higher because of it. I’m training for the Gold Coast Half Marathon at the moment; it’s my first one. When I was a sprinter, I looked at people jogging and wished I could do that. I’ve had to build up my endurance over the past five years. Right now, I’m running four times a week; normally I do two or three running sessions. I also do three sessions a week with an outdoor training group, doing cardio, weights and other things. It’s important to have variety.”

For her diet, she said, “After I retired and had two kids, I had trouble losing weight. I also wasn’t doing much exercise. Then I went to Weight Watchers and learnt about things like portion control, incidental exercise and making good food choices. That really turned things around for me. In the morning I have toast with egg, or avocado and ham. Lunch is generally a wrap with meat and salad, or I’ll have the leftovers from dinner, which would be something like a chicken noodle stir-fry or chicken or steak with vegetables. I love a glass of sauvignon blanc – that’s my biggest weakness.”
