Australian professional ballroom dancer Kym Johnson was born on August 4, 1976. When she was still three years old, she already started dancing. At 13, she began learning the art of ballroom. She started to get noticed in 1998 when she joined the Australian Dancesport Championships in the Open Amateur Modern Ballroom together with her partner Tomas Atkocevicius, a Lithuanian dancer. Together, they went to the U.K. Ballroom Championships at Blackpool and became one of the finalists. In 2001, she decided to leave competitive dancing and instead, shifted to dancing on stage. An Australian citizen herself, she moved to California in 2006 to focus more on her career in the Dancing with the Stars which earned her fame due to her constant appearances from seasons 1 to 3.
As a dancer, it is no surprise why Kym achieves such a fit and totally stunning figure. According to the talented star, “Dancing is a great total body workout because you burn so many calories and tone your entire body without realizing you are working out because you’re having too much fun.”
Other than dancing, Kym said she’s also very active outside. “I love playing tennis even though I am not very good. I like to do Runyon Canyon with friends and hiking with my dog too,” she explained. And not only that. She uses the Dancing with the Stars workout secrets. “The Dancing with the Stars Workout DVD is a great workout, too!” she expressed.
For her diet, she said she’s practicing portion control. “I think portion control is the key as well as exercise,” she said. “I do notice a difference in my body if I cut out carbs after 5 p.m.”
