Kristi Yamaguchi - celebhealthy_comKristine Tsuya Yamaguchi is an American former figure skater, Olympic gold medalist and world champion. She was born on July 12, 1971 in Hayward, California, United States. The sister of Lori Yamaguchi and Brett Yamaguchi and the mother of Emma Yoshiko Hedican and Keara Kiyomi Hedican, she is known as the 1992 Olympic Champion in ladies’ singles. She is also known as the winner of two World Figure Skating Championships in 1991 and 1992 and a U.S. Figure Skating Championships in 1992.

When asked what fitness means to her, Kristi said in an interview, “Looking after yourself, being active and making smart food choices. I think it’s also very important to treat yourself, too, to that mental break, that half hour a day to do something that you want to do––whether it’s reading or visiting with a friend or going on social media, something like that. Just time for yourself.”

Now what’s her workout look like? “My goal is usually doing something three times a week, and one of my go-to’s–– just because we do have a machine at home–– is the elliptical, so for cardio I’ll try to do that for half an hour,” she explained. “And I’m going to try to get on the ice a little more. I haven’t been skating, I haven’t been performing, I am hoping to just go out and skate recreationally for fun at least one or two times a week as well. So that’s a good activity and it’s definitely a whole-body workout, I would say. I do free weights, very light weights with more repetitions, and a lot of using my own body weight for exercises as well—wall sits, isometric holds, one-legged lunges and lunge walks, even just jumps in place, little squat jumps and things like that.”
