American actor, director, screenwriter, producer, and editor Joseph Gordon-Levitt was born in Los Angeles, California, U.S. on February 17, 1981 to Jane and Dennis Levitt. He began acting at a very young age and appeared in various films and TV shows including A River Runs Through It, Angels in the Outfield, Beethoven, and 10 Things I Hate About You, and 3rd Rock from the Sun wherein he played the character of Tommy Solomon.
Although he stopped for a while with his acting career to pursue studies, he dropped out in 2004 to continue his passion. In the 2013 movie entitled Don Jon which he directed himself, Joseph Gordon-Levitt flaunted and showed off a different kind of guy, something that’s far from his previous movies as he appeared to be very muscular and lean on this one. How did he do it? According to the versatile actor: “Bodybuilding is not my thing. I like to play basketball with my friends on the weekends or I’ll ride a bike for some exercise but this character is very vain. He’s very concerned with how he looks. He has a very rigid set of expectations of what a man is supposed to look like.”
So to give a better sense of the character, he shares: “I put on about 12 pounds. I went to the gym every day for a couple of hours for six months. And I ate and at and ate. I ate so much food, [but] no fat, no sugar, no dairy, no bread.”
