He was born on July 6, 1990 in Villa Rica, Georgia, United States. The son of Helen Thompson and Corey Crowder, he attended school at Marquette University, South Georgia Technical College, Howard College, and Villa Rica High School. During the past when he was still a student, he lead his team in Howard College to an NJCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship. It was in the year 2012 when he was drafted 34th overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers during the NBA draft. Since then, his sports career became a success.

In 2013, Jae reportedly lost some pounds which made his fans curious as of how he did it. According to him in an interview, it’s all just about proper workout and a healthy and balanced diet. He said, “You kick it up a notch when you work out. And you watch your diet. Me personally, I took out bread and I took out grease foods. I drink water. I don’t drink any caffeine drinks. I stay away from all the sweet drinks and drink water as much as possible.”

He added, “Last year, I was playing at 246 or 247 pounds, and I was guarding guys like J.J. Redick and he’s running the whole game. That’s wear and tear on your body at 247. I just think now when I get in that situation, I’ll feel much better and be able to produce much more.”
