Giaan Rooney - celebhealthy_comGiaan Leigh Rooney, OAM is an Australian former competition swimmer. She was born on November 15, 1982 in Brisbane, Australia. A member of the Australian team in women’s 4 x 100-metre medley relay, she is well recognized for being a winner of an Olympic gold medal. She also broke a world record during the 2004 Summer Olympics. She started competitive swimming when she was 11 years old, particularly joining at the Miami club in Queensland. That time, she worked with her coach Denis Cotterell. These days, she is regarded as one of the successful international swimmers.

In her interview with Body and Soul Australia, she was asked what’s her fitness regimen. Here’s what she said: “I don’t know if you could call it a health regime, because it might not actually have been that healthy! From the age of 14 until 23 I did full training 50 weeks of the year. I did six hours of swimming a day and three 90-minute gym sessions each week. I was at peak fitness, but that comes with its own set of problems. As fit as you are, with that kind of training your immune system is compromised and you get sick easily, especially around school holiday periods when there’re lots of kids in the water. I would pick up every bug going, so I had to take lots of vitamins and supplements as a preventive measure.”

Now she must be in a healthy diet. “I love and crave healthy food so I eat lots of salads, stir-fries, fruit, vegies and yoghurt,” she said. “I loved carbs when I swam, but now I get quite bloated when I have too many of them, so I have to be careful. I adore Haigh’s, especially the dark chocolate. I could eat it until it comes out of my ears! I also love a massive bowl of pasta.”
