Georges Edy Laraque is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey forward born on December 7, 1976 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He became prominent in the said sport after he participated the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) by which he played for different teams. After his junior years, he became part of the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Hamilton Bulldogs. His latest involvement was with the Montreal Canadiens where he spent his last years of playing.
Georges is a certified vegan, and according to him, it comes for a reason. He said, “I became vegan in April, 2009 after seeing the documentary called Earthlings. What shocked me the most out of all the terrible images was the suffering that the animals in the food industry are exposed to. Like most people, I had no idea that the methods used to slaughter the animals were so inhumane. This initial shock was only amplified when I watched other documentaries like Food Inc. which focused more on the harmful impacts that the food processing industry has on the environment.”
Apart from being a vegan, he is also one very active man, with a passion for Yoga. “I have also made the choice to not wear clothes made from animal products (leather, wool, etc) and I continue to practice yoga, which I started more than 10 years ago,” he explained.
