SONY DSCAmerican singer and musician Aretha Louise Franklin was born on March 25, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. She is the daughter of Barbara Siggers and Clarence LaVaughn Franklin. She started to sing solos after her mother died. She was seen performing at New Bethel and had a debut hymn “Jesus, Be a Fence Around Me”. When she turned 14, her father managed her and accompanied her on “gospel caravan” tours while she performed in different churches. It was when she turned 18 when she decided to go for pop music. Her father then helped her land a two-song debut which impressed the Columbia Records.

In 1961, Columbia Records helped her launch an album called Aretha: With The Ray Bryant Combo. Few years later, she became part of FAME Studios and was able to launch a song called “I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)” which eventually led her to so many singing engagements and projects, making her a successful singer in her generation.

Aretha always sees to it that she’s taking good care of her body. She’s a very health conscious person. In fact, she always watches what she eats. “I go to the healthier foods that are less chemically treated,” she shared. “I am drinking lots of water to get rid of the toxins in my body. It’s a natural flushing. Water flushes your system and is also very good for your skin.” In addition, she said she’s fond of eating fresh fruits and salads. “I am now opting for salads and just healthier lunches.”
